Study programme

Sport and Perfromance Psychology

The Master’s track has a clear structure: from September to the end of December, you take four basic courses; from January to June, you do your internship and research.

Because of the transition of this Master’s programme to English, not all details about the courses are known yet. The descriptions below are adapted from the current study program.

Four courses

  1. Sport and Performance Psychology in Depth (9 ECTS)
    Examples of questions addressed in this course:
    - Can money motivate athletes to perform better? 
    - How do you help an athlete perform under pressure? 
    - What is talent and how is it measured?
     
  2. Group Dynamics in Sport and Performance Psychology (6 ECTS)
    Examples of questions addressed in this course:
    - What is the best way of team building?
    - Why are some coaches so successful?
    - How do you turn a team of experts into an expert-team?
     
  3. Interventions in Sport and Performance Psychology (6 ECTS)
    Examples of questions addressed in this course:
    - What does a sport and performance psychologist do in practice?
    - What coaching skills do you use when working with athletes? 
    - How do you develop a psychological intervention?
     
  4. Research in Sport and Performance Psychology (3 ECTS)
    Examples of questions addressed in this course:
    - How do you set up a scientific study to answer a sport psychological question? 
    - How do you measure sport psychological variables (such as concentration)?

Internship

In this master’s program you do a practical internship (18 ECTS) with an organization for performance improvement. For example, a soccer academy, a national sports association or a practicing sport psychologist.

Master's thesis

Master’s thesis research (18 ECTS) in which you specialize in a certain area and carry out research on it.

Degree

Sport and Performance Psychology is a track of the accredited Master’s program in Psychology. Upon successful completion of this program, you will receive a legally recognized Master’s degree in Psychology and the title of Master of Science (MSc).
